Apply for the Empowerment Award

The Walk-On Foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors as well as collegiate level students demonstrating excellence and improvement in STEM subjects. Our mission is to provide students with the tools and opportunities to succeed in education and beyond.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 (must provide supporting documentation).

  • Demonstrated interest or achievement in STEM subjects.

  • Must be an active student or former student from our Partner School Community.

Personal Qualities:

  • Commitment to personal growth and community involvement.

Application Instructions:

  • Complete the Online Application Form.  Applicants will be required to submit:

    • School Name

    • Essay - Describe a challenge you have faced that you would want to solve for and how what you have learned in your educational journey can help you solve that problem.  How will this solution impact you as well as the intended users of your solution?

      • Word limit: 500 words.  Use of AI to write this essay will negatively impact your qualification.

    • Reference letter from a teacher, mentor, or community leader who can speak to the applicant's character & achievements.  Contact information of your references should be on the reference letter.  Provide a link to their LinkedIn profile if possible.  Applicants can upload up to three (3) reference letters.

    • Unofficial transcript to verify their GPA.

  • Upload all required documents.

  • Submit the application by the deadline.

    • Applications must be submitted annually by February 28th.​  Notification of Awardees will go out annually by May 1st.

Selection Process

Reviewers of the Empowerment Fund applicants will be the TWOF Leadership team who will be responsible for assessing awardees based on:

  • Academic performance and coursework.

  • Quality & insightfulness of the essay.

  • Strength of the Reference Letter.

  • Q: Can I apply if I'm not pursuing a STEM degree?

    • A: While preference is given to STEM students, all applications are considered.

  • Q: Can I apply if I have a low GPA?

    • A: Yes, we consider all aspects of your application, including personal statements and recommendations.

  • Q: Can I apply more than once?

    • A: No, prior recipients of the Empowerment Award will not be considered for future applications.

  • Q: Can I apply if I am not a student of a Partner School with The Walk-On Foundation?

    • A: No, we are only servicing students that are within our Partner Community.
